MMX European Scramble presented by MojoMotoSport.com and MMX Racing
Round 11 AMA District 36 Championship Cross Country Series
September 28-29, 2019

The MMX European Scrambles were held at the MMX facility on Shad Road in Marysville, California.  A European Scramble differs from a Hare Scramble, with shorter laps but the same race duration when it comes to overall race time.  That makes for a bunch of laps, many pit opportunities, and great action for the spectators!  The Scramble layout at MMX incorporates their motocross tracks as well as the natural terrain of the Yuba River, so riders get plenty of man-made jumps and whoops with a bunch of trails and sand mixed in.  The MojoMotoSport Race Team riders are all very familiar with MMX, and were expecting good results at this round.  Here’s how the guys performed:

Brandon Magann – Pro AA #109e (6th Place)

Brandon ended up with another top ten finish.  Although it wasn’t the result he was looking for, it’s another solid result and points towards the championship.  Here’s what he said: “Holeshot! Fell back to 6th with arm pump but charged hard through the sand whoops and was chasing 4th until I had to pit on the last lap and had no chance at catching them after that point. Live & learn on pit strategy. Lapped up to 14th OA which was 10th in the AA class so you could say the front guys were on it!!!”

Lochlan Campbell – Pro AA #3 (12th Place)

Lochlan showed his usual skills on the starting line and speed on the track, but his day was derailed by a couple of crashes: “The day started out with a good start, was around 4th off the line. Ended up going down in a slick section off the main track, putting me towards the back of the pack. I kept pushing trying to make up for lost ground, but was spending a lot of energy doing so. On the second to last lap, after passing a couple pros, I had a bad get off in the river rock section catapulting me into the lip of the next roller. Left battered and bruised I was able to re-mount and finish the race only losing one position in the crash.”

Brett Sage – A Open #120b (1st Place/ 10th Overall)

Brett is on a roll, and took home the win this week!  His hard work over the summer is really paying off, with stamina and speed both showing major improvement.  Here’s Brett: “MMX was a good round I was surprised it was still dusty after the rain we got the night before. I got a bad start and just cruised the first two laps to get a groove going. I then started finding a nice pace I could keep all race! I worked my way up from the back of the pack to 10th overall and 1st in class. I’m happy with how I rode and the battles I had with good friends! I’m glad I’m safe and was able to snag a win for the series. I can’t thank everyone enough for the support and help this season! It’s definitely taking me a long time after my surgery last year to get my speed back and I’m just starting to feel Normal again!”

Anson Maloney - Pro AA #1

Anson took another week off from racing the Cross Country series in anticipation of his ISDE adventure coming up, but he was at the races all weekend long helping out the youth riders. Pre-order your Anson Maloney ISDE hoodie at MojoMotoSport.com to support Anson’s trip to the ISDE in Portugal and Team U.S.A.!

The next race up in the D36 Cross Country Series is the Bigfoot Blitz, October 5th and 6th at the Mt. Shasta Ski Park.  High elevations, beautiful scenery, and a ski lift for the spectators make this race truly unique among Hare Scrambles in Northern California, so you don’t want to miss it!

Thank you to all of our amazing sponsors!
