Phantom Hare Scrambles presented by MojoMotoSport.com, hosted by Ghostriders MC.
Round 6 AMA District 36 Championship Cross Country Series
September 14-15, 2019
The Phantom Hare Scrambles were held at the Hollister Hills Upper Ranch, rescheduled from the spring season due to poor weather conditions. Bad weather wasn’t an issue this past weekend, plenty of sunshine and dust was the order of the day. The MojoMotoSport Race team was more than ready to race after the long summer break. Here’s how the kickoff to the fall season went for the team:
Brandon Magann – Pro AA #109e (2nd Place Overall)
Brandon put together another solid ride and a podium appearance with 2nd place. The speed and consistency he was riding with in the spring were still there. He says, “Started off with the hole shot, but passed by Cole in the next straight away. Followed Cole for the first half a lap until I got caught in some rope that was alongside the trail, barely got it out before Mike (3rd) caught me. Put a charge back on and caught up to Cole and passed him. Lead for the rest of the lap and half of the second lap, until Justin Bonita caught me and passed me. Chased him down as hard as I could, but couldn’t keep his pace for the remaining hour and a half. Back to CrossFit in the mornings this week to get some more cardio!!
Brett Sage – A Open #120b (3rd Place/ 8th Overall)
After scoring a win in Oklahoma earlier this month, Brett landed on the podium again at the Phantom Hare Scrambles with a third-place finish in the A Open class, and ended up in the top ten overall. Says Brett, “I got a decent start to try to beat the dust was having a good first lap with the slippery conditions and found a groove! I was capitalizing on people’s mistakes. Lap 2 came along and I made a few mistakes myself it cost me the lead and I was not happy about that. I did everything I could to keep him in sight and soon found myself on the ground. On lap 3 I had to pit for gas on my 300sx Husky and it cost me 2nd place and an overall position. I pushed and got my overall position back. Jarrett and I were cooking all last lap. Put some good times down and I ended up making contact with the ground again and just decided 3rd would have to do and found the ground once more about 100 feet from the finish! I'm happy with how I charged & happy about my 8th overall. Not where I needed to be in class but there are 6 more rounds to push and make it back up! See everyone at the next one!”
Lochlan Campbell – Pro AA #3 (7th Place/ 40th Overall)
Lochlan went through a tough race, hitting the dirt more than once. Despite that, he kept charging all the way to the end, and still scored valuable championship points. According to him, “Hollister was a tough one, started off in third before crashing in the second turn. I got back on the saddle until hopping on the fire road, when I cartwheeled banging my leg up pretty good. Ended up crashing three more times in the first lap. Had to pull into the pits to try fix everything back up, and went back out there to salvage some points.”
Anson Maloney - Pro AA #1
Anson elected to take this week off from racing, but was at the races all weekend helping out youth riders and selling his custom t-shirts to raise funds for his trip to the ISDE in Portugal coming up.
